Peripheral Radiogrametry assessment of BMD at the Forearm using a weighted average of cortical and bone width measurements at the radius, ulna and 3 metacarpals. Osteoporosis is the demineralization of bones. It is important to check for osteoporosis as we get older for it can be stabilized with therapy. After 50 years of age, it is recommended to have a Bone Density done every 2 years. . At Amherst Radiology, we have a G.E. Lunar unit on which we determine Osteoporosis on the lower back and hips.
